Oanda Erfahrungen Forex und CFDs Broker im Test

APIs offered by brokers and data platforms

I’ve been looking for a broker that has an API for index futures and ideally also futures options. I’m looking to use the API to build a customized view of my risk based on balances, positions, and market conditions.
Searching the algotrading sub I found many API-related posts, but then when I actually read them and their comments, I found they’re often lacking in real substance. It turns out many brokers or data services that have APIs don’t actually support index futures and options via the API, and instead they focus on equities, forex, or cypto. So here’s the list of what I’ve found so far. This isn’t a review of these brokers or APIs and note that I have a specific application in mind (index futures and futures options). Perhaps you’re looking for an API for equities, or you just want data and not a broker, in which case there may be a few options. Also, I’m based in the US so I didn’t really look for brokers or platforms outside the US.
If you have experience with these APIs, please chime in with your thoughts. Also, I may have missed some brokers or platforms. If I did or if you see anything that needs correction please let me know.

What am I missing out by using Oanda fxTrade on Mac?

Hi all,
First of all I'd like to thank all the contributors on this sub for all the content (both positive and negative!) - as a complete newbie to forex trading, every different perspective has been useful in beginning to understand the complexity of FX.
My question is fairly simple really - I signed up with Oanda, and use their fxTrade software on a Mac. I have seen that MT4 is generally regarded as the industry standard, so what am I missing out (as a beginner) by using Oanda's software?
Thanks again for all the helpful posts!

US Traders- Anyone tried Thinkorswim by TD Ameritrade?

I'm currently using OandA for my demo account, didn't like Forex.com much at all, and just had the thought of checking out Thinkorswim by TD Ameritrade.

I couldn't find much info on their website about forex, so I called and asked them questions. Here's what I found out:
I forgot to ask about minimum lot size, but I can call back and get that info.

Has anyone traded forex with them? How'd it go?

Learn howto create your own robot

Anyone interested in how to create your own fx-robot?
Being a software-dev for 7 years, and one year in robo-development, I am thinking of giving a workshop for creating your own fx-robot.
The whole thing will be about python, talib, oanda-api and linux, because you need your own server obviously.
I am thinking about a title like learning python while making money ;) .
Would you be interested?
Update: Firstly thanks guys for your appreciation.
@JAYYDD et al: If you use VPS + MT4 EA, which get's you into 24/7 mode, I would say not much, except the flexibility and speed you earn living outside the metatrader empire, which comes with the cost of learning some skills, like python-programming or getting familiar with RESTful APIs.
@finance_student: Thanks for your answer. I am still figuring out, which format would be the best to present any of my knowledge And I tend to do this in the most figurative way. Long Textposts would scare everyone away, so I am guessing that /forex is not the right platform for that.

How to backtest? Trying to find optimal TP/SL Price %

So I probably should start with: I wouldn't consider myself the brightest soul on earth. I’ve been plugging away at trading for almost ten years and have basically broken even until this year which has been slightly profitable.
This year I’ve been using a modified “3 ducks” system where instead of 4h1h5min I make sure daily/8h4h3h1hr match. I use Oanda’s software and have the trade defaults setup as: Size = 15% Lev NAV, TP = 0.60% Price, SL = 0.50% Price. It’s not perfect but it’s a starting point to profitability IMO; I am however starting to think the percentages are just a tad too high or I need to try a trailing stop %.
The thing I want to do, but have no idea how to make it happen, is backtest basically every TP and SL combination to find the most profitable setting where I don’t get stopped out too early or take my profits to late. There has to be some sort of optimal percentage to use.
Why do I use the settings? Well, you see, like I said… not that bright of a dude sometimes, so I have a habit of (for lack of a better term) dicking around with my trades. Until I set the software to basically just let me click buy or sell, I’d change too many things like "oh, this one's a winner, let me trade a bigger lot" which resulted in nothing working because inevitably the losses always outweighed the winners.
So I'm pretty sure I need to have these settings in place to keep me from doing stupid stuff, might not make the most profit but hey my living expenses are low. I live in a tiny mountain cabin so if I can make like 40 pips a day I'm happy, I'm going for consistency over trying to become rich.
I know MT4 can do backtests and there’s Forex Trader 3 which basically looks like a modified MT4 install, but how in the world do I test what I want? It seems like I have to code a program but damn, I don't think I could code that sort of thing to save my life.

Welcome to r/Lykke Community, start here!

Getting Started with Lykke

What is Lykke?

Lykke is building a global marketplace for the free exchange of financial assets. By leveraging the power of emerging technology, our platform eliminates market inefficiencies, promotes equal access from anywhere in the world, and supports the trade of any object of value. The Lykke Exchange is fast and secure. Users receive direct ownership of assets with immediate settlement from any mobile device. You can try Lykke Wallet, available for both iOS / Android. Here’s a quick video to get you started.

What is Blockchain Technology?

The Lykke marketplace uses the distributed ledger, which is blockchain technology pioneered by Bitcoin. This technology incorporates a protocol for decentralized data storage in the chain of blocks, where the consistency of the data is guaranteed by the cryptography and consensus of multiple nodes.

What are LKK coins?

A Lykke coin (LKK) is a cryptographic token that represents ownership of Lykke, a Swiss registered corporation. There is no mining and currently it's not listed on other exchanges (although that may change). 100 LKK represent 1 share of Lykke Corp. Read more at our Information Memorandum

Most Frequently Asked Questions

How does LKK1Y works?

Lykke 1-year forward coin (LKK1Y) is essentially a derivative on LKK. Buyer of 1 LKK1Y can purchase the right to receive 1 LKK in 365 days after they ask for the delivery. In other words, there is no fixed maturity date: if you buy a Lykke forward contract, you can execute it at any date and after 1 year passes the Lykke coins will be delivered. You can read more at What is Lykke Forward? blog post.

How does Lykke earn money?

Commissions are zero, so Lykke earns revenue from value-add services such as liquidity provision, issuance services, white-labeling, and B2B consulting.

If I own Lykke coins, am I considered to be a shareholder of Lykke Corp?

Yes. If you own Lykke coins, you are entitled to become shareholders of Lykke Corp, provided that you submit to our minimum KYC requirements. Shareholders have additional rights, such as voting and receiving dividends.

Will LKK coins pay dividends?

Yes. They will when the company decides to pay profits to investors, rather than re-invest to fuel growth. As with most startups, dividends may be some time away.

Are there plans to list LKK in other exchanges?

Yes, the roadmap currently states it’s a medium term goal.

How does Lykke differ from other crypto ventures?

Lykke is not a cryptocurrency or distributed ledger technology venture; we are building a marketplace that integrates seamlessly with the existing financial system. Our trading venue uses a matching engine to cross buy and sell orders. The accounting, delivery, and settlement of traded assets use distributed ledger technology. Our initial focus is the foreign exchange market with a daily transaction volume of 4 trillion USD, the biggest financial market in the world.

I am a US citizen and can't download the App. When will Lykke be available in my country?

Hopefully soon, this is only temporary as Lykke requires licenses to be fully compliant in many countries. It’s currently not available in Australia, Japan, Canada and the US (which greatly differs from other countries as states have different laws). At first only some states would be available (or only certain assets could be tradeable) but eventually with more blockchain technology acceptance and adoption more should follow.

Is Lykke Exchange only available on mobile?

Currently yes, however a web trading platform is being developed and part of the medium term roadmap.

How do I backtest, i.e. TradingView, ForexTester, or ??? and how do I get data?

As a newbie, I have been reading books and learning as much as possible before entering the market. I've got an Oanda demo account, but when I'm ready to test my strategy I don't want to test it in real-time, or at least as much as the demo allows, because that is too slow.
As a complete newbie, here is the way I imagine backtesting should work. I'm curious to see how this compares to reality:
  1. Load up charting software (which, I don't know).
  2. File→Load market data from the past, i.e. 2012-present.
  3. Go to the start of the chart, set the chart/bar time.
  4. Hit the left cursor button, or whatever button, each time I want the chart to proceed forward one bar.
  5. Take my time between each bar analyzing whether I should get in, out etc.
The above system would let me test my system without waiting the full 4 or n hours before bars like a demo account would require. Plus, I'm a programmer so I'd like to try and eventually write an indicator and test out other indicators.
In my title I put TradingView and ForexTester because those are the only two I've come across so far that might do this. Do I have to pay for back data, or do people just record it themselves and offer it for free online?
While I don't want people to do my work for me, it just seems like this question might be one that a lot of other people are wondering about and I haven't seen one like it so far on this subreddit.
Thanks!

I started trading live recently, had a few nice results, here are my questions to you

Hi Everyone,
I put $1200 on OANDA and have been making some trades, up $137 so far in about 4 weeks risking about $5-$30 dollars a trade. I realize this is some pretty lucky profit but I thought it was a good start.
Here are a few questions I have:
Has anyone had any luck shorting the dollar on one pair going long on another pair? I imagine this isolates the other pairs and the dollar positions wash minus the spread, but it sounds a little too tricky for me at this point.
For traders in the US, have I blown my chance to elect a favorable tax election for 2015 trading year? the one where you get 60% capital gain and 40% long term gain? I trade the forex spot market. I also think that once you make an election you cannot change your election.
For those of you who work the normal American business hours, what are your favorite pairs to trade and what hours do you trade them? Do you place your trades the night before and maybe check them once/twice per day? do you trade the EUUSD first thing in the morning? I imagine swing trading will be the most viable option for the working people.
What are your favorite forex books or manual back testing softwares? I am currently reading Naked Forex... liking it so far.
If anyone that is serious about becoming a solid trader wants to talk forex, PM me and we'll see about maybe skype session and see where it leads. Maybe a little group. Would love to hear from some fulltime traders or review someones trades and hear their thought processes - PM me.
What are your favorite Broker's?
Feel free to answer any that apply to you, thanks gents!

How Should I Model a Spread for Commissions in Simulations?

I'm still doing a lot of backtesting of some software I have been writing to try to trade forex. I got to the point where I realized that I don't understand commissions with forex brokerages. I'm kind of hoping I'm being unnecessarily cruel with myself in the commissions I'm charging to myself.
I have some EURUSD data I downloaded off of dukascopy that I've been using in the simulations. I saw on Oanda their average spread for EURUSD these days is 1.2 pips. It can go down to 0.8 and it sometimes spikes above that. So what I have been doing in the simulation is using the next bar's closing price, plus 0.00012 for my long entrance price. For exiting a position, I use the next bar's closing price, minus 0.00012. I was looking at that and was wondering if I'm actually using a spread of 2.4. Am I being too hard on myself?
I assume that brokerages that charge a spread don't really change anything based on amount of margin used, because it's reflected in the price used in the transactions. Is that true?
I also wondered if brokerages that charge a spread just bake it into the prices in their data feed.
I've seen a lot of advice to just open an account and start trying it out there. I'd like to forward test, but I really don't want to go through all the motions if I've proven my strategy is already too risky for my tastes without all that.

Brokerages:
There are many factors to consider when choosing a brokerage. Regulations typically force US traders to only trade at US brokerages, while international traders have more choice. After considering location you need to consider how much capital you will start trading with as many have minimum deposit levels. Once you’ve narrowed that down you can compared spreads and execution. ECN brokers execute your orders straight through to their liquidity providers, while market maker brokers may pair up your trades with other clients. Market maker brokers typically will partially hedge your positions on the interbank market. Many consider this to be a conflict of interest and prefer to trade at an ECN broker who would have an active motive to see you succeed. Lastly, brokers run inherently risky business models so it is important to consider the risk of bankruptcy.

FAQ:
I need to exchange money, how do I do it?
This isn’t what this sub is for. Your best bet is using your bank or an online exchange service. Be prepared to pay a hefty fee.
I have money in one currency and need to exchange it into another sometime in the future, should I wait?
Don’t ask us this. We speculate intraday in FX and shouldn’t be relied on to tell you what’s best for you. Exchange the money when you need it.
I have an FX account, should I start trading demo or live?
This is highly debatable. You should definitely demo trade until you have mastered how to use the trading platform on desktop and mobile. After that it’s up to you. Many think that the psychology of trading live vs demo trading is massively different. So it may pay to learn to trade live. Just be warned that most FX traders lose almost their entire first account so start with a low affordable balance.
What’s money management?
Money management is a form of risk management and is arguably the most important aspect of your trading when it comes to long term survival. You should always enter trades with a stop loss - the distance of the stop allows you to calculate how large of a percent of your account balance will be lost if your trade stops out. You can run a monte carlo simulation to figure out the risk of having a number of trades go against you in a row to drain your account. The general rule is that you should only risk losing 1-4% of your account per trade entered.
More on this here: www.investopedia.com/articles/forex/06/fxmoneymgmt.asp[35]
www.swing-trade-stocks.com/money-management.html[36]
What about automated trading?
Retail FX traders have been known to program “Expert Advisors” (EAs) to automate trading. It’s generally advisable to stay away from that until you’re very experienced. Never buy an EA from a developer because the vast majority of them are scams.
What indicators are best?
That’s up to you to test and find out. Many in this forum dislike oscillating indicators since they fail to capture the essence of what moves price. With experience you will discover what works best for you. In my experience indicators that are most popular with professional traders are those that provide trading “levels” such as pivot points, fibonacci, moving averages, trendlines, etc.
What timeframe should I trade?
Price action can vary in different timeframes. In longer term timeframes the price action and fundamentals are much more clear. Unfortunately it would take a very long time to figure out whether or not what you’re doing is successful on longer timeframes. In shorter timeframes you can often tell very quickly if what you’re doing is profitable. Unfortunately there’s a lot more “noise” on these levels which can prove deceptive for those trying to learn. Therefore the best bet is to use a multi-timeframe analysis, working from top-down to come up with trades.
Should I trade using fundamental analysis (FA) of technical analysis (TA)?
This is a long standing argument in these forums and elsewhere. I’ll settle it here - you should have an understanding of both. Yes there are traders who blindly ignore one of the other but a truly well rounded trader should understand and implement both into the analysis. The market is driven in the longer term through FA. But TA is necessary to give traders a place to enter and exit trades from a psychological risk/reward standpoint.
I’ve heard trading Binary Options is an easy way to make money?
The general advice is to stay away from binaries. The structure of binary options is so that when you lose the broker wins. This incentive has created a very scammy industry where there are few legitimate binary options brokers. In addition in order to be profitable in binaries you have to win 55-65% of the time. That’s a much higher premium over spot FX.
Am I actually exchanging currencies?
Yes and no. Your broker handles spot FX is currency pairs. Although they make an exchange at the settlement date they treat your position in your account as a virtual currency pair. Think of it like a contract where you can only buy or sell it as a pair. In this sense you are always long one currency while short another. You are merely speculating that one currency will appreciate or depreciate vs another.
Why didn't my order fill?
Even if price appears to cross over a line on your chart it does not guarantee a fill. Different charting platforms chart different prices - some chart the bid price, some the ask price and some the midpoint price. To fill a limit order price needs to cross your limit's price plus the spread at the time that it is crossing. If it does not equal or exceed the spread then it will not fill. Be wary that in general spreads are not fixed. So what may fill at one time may not at another.

The Future of Currency Trading: Japanese Software Company Develops Forex App for the Pepper Humanoid Robot

This is an automatic summary, original reduced by 31%.
Japanese software developer Forex Robotics Corporation has announced it's developing a trading application for Pepper, a 4ft-tall humanoid robot engineered by French robotics firm Aldebaran and SoftBank Group, a Tokyo-based IT conglomerate.
According to today's announcement, the Forex Robotics Corporation trading app will be making use of Pepper's AI capabilities to make trades on the OANDA FxTrade foreign currency trading platform.
The company states that Pepper will be able to execute both demo and real trades thorough the Web API provided by OANDA Japan.
While Forex Robotics is making use of the OANDA foreign exchange trading infrastructure, the company clarified that OANDA is not actively participating in the development of the Pepper trading app.

[Just Launched] Options Domination Binary Trading - [Amazing System] - True Risk Free Trades! [New for 2015]

Many brokers or services will market something called “risk free” trades in which a certain number of your first trades you can get your money back should the signals they give you prove to be of bad quality. In most cases there are many regulations that require you to keep investing a certain amount before you can withdraw your “risk free” trades. This is the sign of a bad signal provider that probably makes more money selling their signals then they do actually implementing them themselves.
In our case study of the system we won 5 out of 7 of the trades and pocketed $250 in profit which is a 25% return on a small investment. We were very impressed with these results. At that time we could have elected to withdraw our original $1,000 and essentially be playing with the $250 “on the house”. CLICK HERE TO GET YOUR RISK FREE TRADES NOW!
CLICK HERE TO GET YOUR RISK FREE TRADES NOW!
Using their basic system of signals we were able to accumulate over $10,000 in our account in just 30 days! These are better results then we have gotten with other binary signals costing 10 times the amount of what options domination is charging. For a simple $50 a month you get multiple daily signals, keep in mind they don’t send you 1,000’s of signals a day like most services as they are focusing on the quality of the signal and not just sending you a bunch of garbage signals like many of the other companies do.
